Education & Career

Education is our #1 priority at Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County. Through programs that enable youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations and embrace technology to achieve success in a career, the club helps children grow into the adults they envision themselves to be.

Career Launch

The Career Launch program is a career exploration and mentoring program for youth ages 13-18 and includes the Career Launch Web site sponsored by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America . Teens are allowed to take an interest survey, explore careers, identify training or college requirements, seek out financial aid and play skills-building games. It utilizes the following two nationally tested programs:

  • Career Explorers - encourages Club members ages 13 to 15 to assess their skills and interests, explore the diverse possibilities of tomorrow’s careers, and begin preparing for employment opportunities.
  • Job Ready! - provides Club members ages 16 to18 with specific skills to secure employment and be successful in today’s competitive work force. Through comprehensive program materials and assessment tools, Club staff can tailor the program to meet members’ particular needs.

Age-appropriate graduates in each category of Career Launch are eligible for paid internships, job shadowing, and job placement through partnerships with local businesses, financial institutions, retail establishments, local government, and other places of work needing trained, responsible young adults.

Goals for Graduation

Goals for Graduation introduces Club members ages 6 to15 to the concept of academic goal setting. In one-on-one sessions with Club professionals, members set achievable "Know-I-Can" goals, more challenging "Think-I-Can" goals and yearly "Believe-I-Can" goals, then create action plans. The program provides for recognition of members' achievements at every step of the journey.

Power Hour: Making Minutes Count

A comprehensive homework help and tutoring program, POWER HOUR is designed to raise the academic proficiency of Club members ages 6 to12.
