Racial & Social Justice

  • Whatever it takes to ensure equity and opportunity for every kid & teen.

For over 130 years, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County has fostered hope and potential in communities.

When we opened our first Club was in 1893, we sought to improve the lives of young people in the community. As our understanding of the challenges facing youth and Hudson County have changed, our approach has grown, evolved and innovated. Yet, our commitment to do better for Hudson County youth remains the same.  In those early days, we believed a safe place and a warm meal was enough to be the differentiator for a young person. Today, we know kids and teens need far more to succeed.

At Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County, we believe every young person has what it takes. Annually, we serve over 3,000 youth through 10 Club sites. At the Club, youth find safe spaces, supportive mentors and high-quality programming to help them grow into productive, caring, responsible adults. Right now, we are at a critical juncture as widening wealth, equity and opportunity gaps limit and threaten the great futures our young people deserve. Clubs support kids and teens – of every race, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, sexual orientation, ability, disability, socio-economic status, and religion – providing a safe, inclusive environment for every child who walks through our doors.

  • Racial Equity: A Call for Change

Boys & Girls Clubs of Hudson County stands against racism and discrimination. The work that occurs at our Clubs every day is part of the change needed to provide equitable opportunity to all. Our Clubs offer youth safe, supportive environments where kids and teens of all races and backgrounds are encouraged to have difficult conversations and use their voices to create positive change:
  • People

Ensuring we are trauma-informed, survivor-centered and that Club staff and board are well-trained in anti-racism and equity work.

  • Programs

Embedding diversity, equity and inclusion in all programs and resources and creating new assets to specifically target these critical issues.

  • Public Policy

Advocating for policy change to close gaps that exist at the federal, state and local levels through a robust, sustained advocacy strategy.

  • Partnerships

Identifying and accelerating local partnerships that help us build our expertise in the work of racial justice and equity.
